From March 22-25, 2025, as part of a study visit organized by the Polish Biomethane Organization, we had the opportunity to visit one of Europe’s most advanced biomethane plants by VIDA Bioenergy in Tilburg, the Netherlands. This facility specializes in converting organic waste into biomethane, which is then injected into the gas grid, providing clean, renewable energy to thousands of households.
POB Reports on Poland’s Biomethane Potential
During the visit, we presented key findings from two of the latest POB reports on biomethane investments in Poland. Our research covered the majority of Polish municipalities and counties (powiat), aiming to estimate the production potential of biomethane based on available raw materials, such as biodegradable waste, sewage sludge, and agri-food sector residues. The collected data serves as a valuable source of information for investors, local governments, and industry organizations.
Are Concerns About Odor Nuisance Justified?
The visit was attended primarily by local government representatives seeking to expand their knowledge about biomethane potential and future investments. One of the key topics discussed was residents’ concerns about odor emissions. Seeing the Dutch biomethane plant in action firsthand, participants learned that modern technologies effectively minimize such issues. Moreover, the development of the biomethane sector can provide significant support for local job markets.
A huge thank you to VIDA Bioenergy for their organizational support and for allowing us to visit their facility in Tilburg. The insights and experience gained during this visit are invaluable and will help implement best practices in Poland.
We are already planning further visits to our inspiring partners – interested organizations are welcome to get in touch.
